The scunthorpe RSPCA is an independent charity which recieves NO financial assistance from the government or from our own H.Q.
Our main aim is to prevent animal suffering and to promote responsable pet ownership wherever possible.
We take in and care for all manner of unwanted, abandoned and abused animals locally and keep them until a loving, caring permanent home can be found for them. We believe that the right home home is waiting out there for every animal we take in. Please note we have A NON DESTRUCTION POLICY in place unless by virtue of an animals unsound and aggressive temperment, or on advice from the Veterinary surgeon on humane grounds in order to prevent further suffering.
Free cat neutering is offered at the moment to all persons who are on state benefit and who live within our Branch boundary.
Low cost micro-chipping for pets is available to everyone at a cost of £10. This must be booked on the day and where necessary can be done at your own home.
Financial assistance is available for sick and injured pets whose owners genuinely cannot afford the full costs of Veterinary treatment.
WE BELIEVE THAT EVERY ANIMAL HAS THE RIGHT TO THE BEST VETERINARY CARE AVAILABLE IRRESPECTIVE OF ITS OWNERS ABILITY TO PAY.
Transportation of pets to Vets can be arranged for any person who is disabled.
Rabbits, Guinea-Pigs and Ferrets can be neutered through the RSPCA voucher scheme at a minimum donation of £10. This is mainly available for persons receiving state benefit.
The area we cover ranges from Gunness, Scotter, Blyton, Morton, Brigg, Barton, Burton, Scawby, Goxhill, Barrow on Humber, South Killingholme and along the A18 past Kirmington to Great Limber.
The local RSPCA first came into existance in the late 1940s and was initially anauxilliary working under and responsible to the parent Branch at Grimsby.
The first premises used by the local RSPCA were based at 13 High St Scunthorpe in a building that had formerly been an old farmhouse.
By the early 1970s the Scunthorpe Auxiliary had not only become a Branch in its own right with its own seperately registered Charity number but had also relocated to a new purpose built building on the corner of Frances St and west St in Scunthorpe.
Over the 32 year period at the Frances St premises many thousands of animals benefited from our existance. Unfortunately, over the last 10 years at this site we suffered constant and increased vandalism which culminated in an arson attack at the rear of the building.
We had no wish to give in to mindless vandals but our own safety and that of the animals had to take priority and so we had to call it a day there.
The building was finally handed over to North Lincolnshire Council on the 27th of January 2006 and we moved from there to leased offices at the rear of the Grange Farm Hobbies Centre in Scunthorpe.
