Bulldogs

The British bulldog has become something of an icon. But just as not every resident of our nation fits the Churchillian stereotype, not every English bulldog lives up to the stereotypical attributes. Bulldogs can make wonderful pets, but this very much depends on the environment they're raised in and the training they receive.

British bulldog traits

Bulldogs are thought by some to make loving and loyal pets who are courageous, strong and powerful. This can actually vary greatly between each dog. Every bulldog's nature is heavily influenced by their upbringing. A puppy who isn't properly trained and socialised may grow into a dog who's timid and shy.

Make sure you're prepared to give a puppy all the care they need.

Buying a bulldog puppy

Pedigree and purebred bulldogs are sought out because of their distinctive features. But you'll need to do your homework before you rush out and buy a puppy.

Bulldog health problems

Features which may make a pedigree bulldog puppy appear adorable to you can cause serious health problems too. In many cases, they've been selectively bred to exaggerate their physical features. This causes pain and suffering and can prevent them from behaving normally.

Ask the breeder the right questions

If you choose to buy a bulldog puppy from a breeder, don't be afraid to ask questions and find out as much about the pup’s health and history as possible.

Use the Puppy contract

The Puppy Contract ensures that you're getting a healthy, happy puppy from healthy, happy parents.
