Take the lead on responsible dog ownership in Wales
Dog ownership impacts not just our pets but our local communities and public safety too.
In our recent survey, almost 90% of Welsh councillors agreed there’s a need for more education on responsible dog ownership in their area. Yet over 70% said they don’t have the resources to promote this.
We need your help to share information and tools with your local council, so they can create safer and more compassionate communities for every kind.

Our dogs, our duty
When a dog owner doesn’t take their responsibility seriously, the rest of the community suffers.
Our survey found that common dog issues across Wales include:
- Dog fouling in public spaces like parks and footpaths
- Public safety, with locals put at risk by off-lead dogs
- Irresponsible breeding, without regard for the dogs’ health
- Selling dogs, with sellers prioritising profit over dog welfare
- Dog fighting, which often results in the death of the dogs
- Dog neglect, failing to provide dogs with adequate food, shelter and care
- Off-lead dogs, posing a risk to the safety of other dogs, people and wildlife
- Livestock worrying - dogs chasing or even attacking local farm animals
The welfare of animals is our main concern. The welfare of your community is your council’s. We need your help to make your area safer for everybody and every kind by sharing our responsible dog ownership resources with your local council.
Responsible dog ownership is a huge barrier for our local communities, with more councils turning to us for help. A little goes a long way, and we can all take small steps to make safer, happier communities for dogs and their owners.
78% of local councillors across Wales say irresponsible dog ownership is a problem in their area
